How to apply for apply for a grant to investigate or remediate a contaminated area

Government grants are awarded in stages. For this reason, it is recommended that you initially only apply for government grants to investigate, and then to conduct further investigation and risk and sustainability assessments, and finally to remediate, if necessary.

Quick instructions for applying for a grant: 

1. Go to the State Treasury applyforgrants.fi service.

On the list of calls for government grant applications, search for “Grants for investigating the contamination of an area and remediation of a contaminated area” and click the link for more information on the call for grant applications.

The call for grant applications consists of a call notice, standard terms related to use of the grant and an application form. Read more about the call for grant applications. The application form is displayed to users who are logged in to the service.

2. Fill in the application carefully

Fill in the application carefully and attach any required documents. The forms have mandatory questions that must be answered before the application can be submitted. An incomplete application, any need for further investigation and making any changes to the application while it is being processed may prolong processing of the matter.

3. The Finnish Supervisory Agency will issue a decision on the matter.

Once the Finnish Supervisory Agency has received sufficient and correct information to resolve a matter concerning a grant application, it issues a decision on the matter. The decision is subject to appeal.

Applyforgrants.fi sends the applicant an e-mail link to the authority’s decision on the grant matter.

Received decisions can be found in the Personal Matters view of the main menu (top left corner). All decisions are listed in the Grant Matters section, and approved applications are also found in the Received Grants section.

When will the grant be paid?

When you have been awarded a grant and completed a planned project or reached an agreed stage, first pay the invoice. Then fill in the payment application by the deadline specified in the decision.

Government grants may be paid in one or more instalments or on the basis of actual costs in accordance with the decision.

Fill in the payment application at applyforgrants.fi according to the schedule given in the decision.
